Coating Intake Ports
We have been asked from time to time about coating
the ports and the benefits. Normally the port is coated
with one of our dry film lubricants, like TLML or
CermaLube. This provides a Boundary layer effect and
aids in reducing fuel drop out. For all out competition
it is recommended that a coat of our TLLB be applied,
the coating “flashed” at 200f for 10 minute and after
cooling, a top coat of TLML is applied and then cured.
The TLLB will function as a thermal barrier reducing
heat absorption by the fuel and the TLML will continue
to provide the Boundary Layer effect. The same
principles apply in the runners of an intake manifold.
Silk Screened
Pistons
Periodically we receive questions about pistons
coated using the silk screen method. Many shops report
customers bring new screen coated pistons in to be
recoated after running for just a short period of time.
In many instances a screen coated piston has not had the
skirts etched, to save cost and allow for high
production volume coating. Unfortunately this leads to
poor adhesion of the coating. In effect the coating acts
as a break in coating only. While CermaLube will bond to
a piston without etching we recommend that all parts to
be coated with a Dry Film Coating be properly etched to
assure complete bonding and long life.

what makes small businesses a vital part of the American
economy. The selection committee chooses the award
winners from nominees based off statistical research and
also information taken from monthly surveys administered
