From Sam Yeoman’s Racing Engines

Big Cabin, OK.

Sam Yeoman wanted to pass on the following information. He coated the pistons (CBX on the dome and CermaLube on the skirts) and combustion chambers and valves (CBX on chamber surfaces and TLML on the stems) on a 360 Cu. In Chevy small block. This engine runs on alcohol and is raced in E Modified (on dirt). The driver reports that he had more power than he could handle. He was able to pass every other car on the track when on the straights, but the power coming out of the turns was so much greater than the engine previous developed that he initially could not easily control the vehicle.

From Ed Lake

Lake Hydraulics & Repair

Deer Park, WA

Ed tells us they have been using our coatings for years because the coatings allow them to repairs that could not be accomplished before. On Certain pumps they are able to remove the worn components, lap them and apply one of our coatings. The rebuilt pump now functions as it did when new. In the past the only solution was to order new parts as the old parts could not be repaired.

The pumps are subject to very high surface speeds and even with good oil the life of the parts was marginal. Coating the surfaces is the only solution that increases the life of the parts. Ed indicates they have used the coatings in a variety of applications and all have responded with improvement in the performance and life of the pumps.

TLTD on Pistons

We have been repeatedly asked about the use of TLTD under the dome on a piston. TLTD will accelerate the transfer rate of heat from the piston to the oil, cooling the piston. Typically this is only done in race applications as the major benefit in reducing heat comes from the use of either CBC2 or CBX on the top of the piston. However where every bit of thermal transfer is critical the use of TLTD will provide additional benefit.

Hot Rod Magazine

August 2005

Hot Rod has a very nice article that is titled “GO FAST ON PUMP GAS’. The article has a lot of valuable information and includes reference to coated pistons. This is a very well written article and can be a valuable tool to help an individual gain knowledge of the combustion chamber environment and function. If you are a shop applying coatings this article can be a nice tool to use to help educate your customer, and emphasize the value of having their parts coated.
