Welcome to Techlines... July 2008 "The Industry Experts in
Thin Film Technology"
The Newsletter will only be available on the web for the time being. Difficulties with our email program and the multiple spam filters inuse make it extremely difficult to get the Newsletter through to those asking to receive it. Black Exhaust System Coatings Many customers have asked for information on our existing Black Hi temp Coatings. The following will give a brief over view. Black Satin: This was our first coating produced. Originally developed for the X30 Space Plane It is still an extremely popular coating. Testing has shown very good thermal barrier capabilities and adhesion has been tested to temps over 2000F, with out delamination. Black Satin can be applied and simply allowed to air dry. It will cure with exhaust heat. Black Satin can also be cured in an Industrial Oven at 750F for one hour. After experiencing 1000F base metal temps the coating will turn a satin black or the color shift will occur when cured in an oven at 750F. Further color changes occur as heat increases, shifting from a satin black to a flat black at high temperatures. The pigment is a brown black and can go dark gray at very hi temps. Very popular in both automotive and motorcycle exhaust applications. Turbo X: Very similar to Black Satin. Temperature capabilities are essentially the same. The primary difference is in finished appearance as a different pigment is used. This is a blue black pigment and will not turn gray. The color varies from a low gloss to a satin black, slightly shinier than Black Satin, after being exposed to over 1000F in use or cured at 750F. Further color changes occur as heat increases, shifting from a satin black to a flat black at high temperatures. Very popular in both automotive and motorcycle exhaust applications. (Also available in blue) ColorGard Black: An air drying Black coating with a mild gloss. ColorGard Black has a very hard smooth finish and remains black throughout its working range. ColorGard Black will cure with exhaust heat or can be cured in an Industrial oven at 500F for 1 hour. The coating is a good thermal barrier and the finish retains a mild gloss until exposed to base metal temps in excess of 1000f. The finish will then vary from a satin black to a matte black as temperatures exceed 1000f. Maintains adhesion to 1800F. Very popular where a glossier finish than Black Satin or Turbo X, is desired.. This system is also available in other colors. In Development; not available at this time CilGen Black: This is a two part high temperature black. It will full cure without heat, though curing can be accelerated by an oven cure at 500F for 1 hour. It is a satin black and has an extremely hard surface. No VOC’s ColorGard Satin Black A satin finish version of ColorGard Black, for those wishing a satin finish rather than the standard gloss. No VOC’s DS1048 Water Emulsion Black: This is a two part satin black with very high temperature capabilities and a very hard finish. Low to no VOC’s. Similar to our discontinued WBX. We may be able to reproduce our very popular WBX using this system.
