Welcome to Techlines... July 2004

NEW AREA CODE

Please note that Area Code has changed for the California office. The New Area Code is 951. The change will be in full effect by Oct 1st, 2004

Vibratory Polisher Water

Vibratory polishers are a necessary piece of equipment when it comes to polishing Cermakrome or any of its variants. Always be sure that you are using filtered water, NOT tap water. The alkalinity in water can severely affect the finish of Cermakrome. A dull film after polishing may be indicative of a water problem. In Severe cases the coating may not polish at all. For best results the water in the vibratory polisher should be very warm. Water issues seem to be coming up a little more often so this reminder seems appropriate.

LOW VOC Coatings

For shops needing to meet more stringent air quality requirements, Black Satin is now available in a Low V.O.C. formulation. There will be a slight cost increase simply to cover the increased cost of the Non-V.O.C. solvent being used. This will drop the V.O.C.'s to below 3.5 lbs per gallon as blended. Turbo X, Gray Ice and the Colorgard line will be available shortly with the same V.O.C. percentage.

Wolfe Abrasive Blasting & Coating Texas City, TX

We have been advised by Kenneth of Wolfe Abrasive that they totally coated a 546 cu. in Big Block Chevy running Nitrous. They picked up 85 H.P. using the coatings. This included coating the block, the crankshaft, valve train components, combustion chambers, rods, ports, virtually everything.

New Coatings

We have mentioned new coatings in the past. The TECHTREX™ line is an example of the new coatings we are developing. However our full product line will include many more. We are targeting primarily fluorocarbon (PTFE, PFA, FEP etc), though we are developing other coatings as well, in a variety of resin bases. These will be recommended when the TECHTREX™ line of coatings, which is our premier line of Industrial Coatings, is not appropriate.

If you consult the Chemical Resistance charts on the TECHTREX™ web pages, you will see a few instances when a different base is better. Note; VERY few instances. In other cases the full properties of TECHTREX™ will not be needed and a less expensive and yet adequate system is appropriate.

The next series of coatings will be low temperature cure system, (300F to 350F) so that the benefits will be available on materials that cannot handle the 750F cure temp of TECHTREX™ coatings. While these are targeted at the Industrial sector many of these coatings will have Performance Automotive applications as well. We should have one or more new systems available by the end of the month.
