Welcome to Techlines... February 2004

Rides TV Show On 2-10-2004

The TLC TV channel aired an episode of "Rides" that detailed a build up of a shop truck into a roadster. As part of the build-up they needed a custom exhaust system including headers and so contacted Rewarder Headers (one of Tech Line's customers using Cermakrome) they proceeded to describe the fabrication process, including how they coated the entire exhaust system with a "special" ceramic coating that would keep under-hood temperatures down and look very nice.

ORANGE COUNTY CHOPPERS TV SHOW

Caps Brite Hot Coatings in Fresno California coated a set of headers for the TV Show. The bike was for Jay Leno and has been on the program shown the first week in March. Both the shop and Mr. Leno were extremely pleased with the appearance. Catch the episode of you can.

At the MOVIES

A new movie with a pre production title of "Are We There Yet" was in need of a fire retardant coating. Standard fire retardant coatings could not be used as when exposed to a flame they either puff out or change colors. Since multiple shots were needed of a car on fire, they needed a coating that would protect the fiberglass components that were made to look like standard interior parts. These parts were textured to replicate the various surfaces and could not be damaged or discolored in any way or they could not be usable for the next shot. Tech Line was contacted by the production company and made two base coats that were tint able, allowing the special effects group to color the coating to give the various shades needed for each piece. The coating, which was water based, gave all the protection needed for multiple shots with no change in appearance. The production company increased the number of components both inside and out of the car that were to receive the coating, since it worked so well.

FORD TESTING

Black Satin, WBX and Cermakrome are currently being tested by Ford Motor Company. The first test was a Thermal Shock Test. Iron plates coated on one side were placed in an oven and raised to 1055f. Once the plates reached this temperature the plates were removed from the oven and immediately submerged in Ice water. The extreme thermal shock had no effect on the coatings at all. All three coatings are undergoing further testing at this time.

DISPERSION BLADES

Tech Line will be making Dispersion Blades available later in March. These will allow through blending and dispersing of materials in both Quart and Gallon containers. Excellent to use when material has settled to the bottom of the can and does not blend up readily. We are working on smaller blades for CBC1, CBC2 and CBX.
