MPMC Conference
This is our second year as an attendee at this conference. The purpose
of the conference is to bring manufacturers and editors/writers from
various performance oriented magazines. The information shared at
these meetings becomes the bases for magazine articles through the
year. Look for these articles, though we will try to advise when they
appear. If you have any test data or good experiences to share please
let us know and we may be able to get you exposure in one or more
articles.
COOL Harley
From KOOL COAT CERAMIC COATINGS
Langley B.C.
KOOL Coat coated the exhaust system on a 800 H.P. Nitro burning Harley
drag bike. The radiated heat off the exhaust manifold, measure three
inches back from the port was 200f lower than an uncoated system.
This shows up both as an improvement in exhaust flow as well as lowering
the chance of being burned by the pipe.
Humidity and Cermakrome
Several shops have run into problems with Cermakrome drying at a
different rate than normal. The culprit is a change in humidity. Water
based coatings like Cermakrome are very sensitive to changes in the
moisture content of the air.
When it is too dry the coating dries very rapidly and can be 'rough_
rather than smooth. There is also an over spray problem during dry
conditions, where the over spray is not absorbed by the existing coating
because the coating has dried. One shop cured this by hanging the
finished part in a humid cabinet and letting it absorb some moisture,
thus allowing the coating to "flow" to a smooth finish before
drying and baking.
When humidity goes up the coating will not dry at a proper rate and
may actually absorb moisture from the air, thus creating "fish
eyes" appearing areas or will actually begin to separate. Generally
switching from LH to standard will help when it is too humid. Switching
from standard to LH works when the air is too dry.
